Division of Business Technology & Service
Joni is a Professor and Chair of the Business Technology & Service Division. A descendant of immigrants and native of Moloka`i, Hawai`i, she holds a B.A. in humanities and a Ph.D. in education (higher education administration) from Washington State University.
She also comes from industry; she spent almost 30 years as a litigation paralegal and law firm administrator, "doing" what she taught. In teaching in the Legal Support Programs, she connected her students to law through learning about competence, professionalism, critical thinking, relevance to practice, and balance in their personal and professional lives.
Joni has published and presented papers on paralegal practice, higher education, and web response. Currently, her primary research areas focus upon higher education leadership as well as paralegal licensure and attorney admission trends (a byproduct of her service with the Character & Fitness and Disciplinary Boards of the Washington State Bar Association).
